Spine Angle in the Golf Swing? How to influence LOW POINT and POWER

If you get your spine angle in the correct position then you can start really working your golf club. In a chain of events, and with the correct (from old school perspective) power system you’ll make your body move almost automatically.

This is one the forefront of my research and not super clear yet but I do my best to describe how I perceive it.

Slight Negative Spine = Downswing Goodness?

To be honest positions aren’t my favorite topic because they put you in a mechanical mindset but I will discuss it here. If you can get your pelvis in a position that give you a slight negative spine you will create a much more efficient P4->P5 movement of the body.

What do I mean? The early downswing, and especially your pelvis and lead shoulder, need to work efficiently to open up the gateways for a reactive more automatically rotating body. If you get this part of the swing more like e.g. Scottie Scheffler you’ve achieved the most difficult part of golf = the ability to use the club to it’s maximum potential.

Low Point Forward = Ability to move it Backwards

Measuring a golf swing is problematic because it’s a complete interplay between loads of different factors. It’s almost like a 3d puzzle put in rotation.

Low point, that you get from e.g. trackman, is one of these hard measurements. If I could measure it, which I really wouldn’t, I would only care about measurements that are related to the upcoming events in motion.

For instance, Scottie Scheffler’s low point in the top backswing position and early downswing is probably 50 cm after the golf ball. This makes it possible for him to unleash the club and stimulate a body behavior that we all perceive whilst watching him. The low point dynamically shifts around in the swing.

Old School Follow Through Motions – Demands Downswing Matching

I myself, try to get my low point forward, so that my downswing and through swing can move it backwards. This comes from understanding old school golf. Their clubs post impact shoot up towards the sky.

So if their clubs shoot up towards the sky then probably it has gone down and forward A LOT before that right?

Long story short – if you get your spine in a slight negative tilt in the top backswing position, like all the greats had (remember the lead heel lifting), then you can start unleashing your club and your body much more.
