Automatic Body Rotation – An Outcome of using the Swing Arc

There are many different swing styles, but the classic golf swing was built around one key principle—utilizing the swing arc. If you are a golfer that is reacting to whatever intentions is given to the arms, hands and club (9/10 work like this in my experience) you will get most of the rotational components for free. In other words automatic body rotation.

I my swing style, the FMM swing, that is focusing swing arc usage with two driving intentions the only actual time I think about rotation is in the training phase of the backswing. The syncrhonized chest rotation through the ball happens because of how you intend the club and it’s really quite cool.

Two Styles of Rotation to Consider

Firstly you have the rotation that is harder to see and that is the above mentioned chest rotation. This is actually the culprit behind the biggest swing flaw in golf = over the top. If you get your chest rotation going too early in the downswing you will become too steep and to outside in (unless you shallow the golf club with a difficult transition move). This chest rotation you wish to happen through the ball (if you are into the swining motion of the old greats). How come you get it for free? The way that you lead the power actually makes the joints move the chest. It’s quite remarkable really.

Secondly, you have what I call full body rotation. This is that the legs, hips, core, and chest all rotate at roughly the same rate. This is something that you stimulate as a byproduct of the old school full body extension.

Never Thinking About Rotation – Rory McIlroy & Zach Johnson & My self….

No, I’m not putting myself on their level. They actually have talent ( 🙂 ) but it’s pretty cool that both Rory McIlroy and Zach Johnson both have mentioned that they never think about rotation and it still, when you observe them, looks like that’s all they’re doing.

The FMM Swing System, Forgotten Master Moves Swing System, is all about digging up the inner driving components that have been used all the way from the 1920s until today. In the modern game you have different styles that deviate from the old greats but I’m heavily biased towards what Hogan, Snead, Nicklaus, early Tiger Woods etc were doing. They utilized the swing arc for power and this comes with, as discussed, automatic body rotation.
